What nourishes you?
What nourishes you?
Contemplating our theme for May
We often think of nourishment in the form of food. It's a full time job these days staying on top of the most nourishing diet. Have you made sure you're getting enough Omega 3s, nettles, turmeric, flax seeds, chia seeds, goji berries, dark leafy greens, healthy fats, blue green algae, and maca powder in today? And that's just for your morning smoothie! We spend countless amounts of time and resources trying to pack nourishing, nutrient rich food into our bodies to achieve optimum vitality, but I think true nourishment far surpasses what we put into our mouths.
I believe it's about what and how we choose to ingest the world around us.
So much of my daily practice is about re-orienting my perspective of what comes in to my senses and being through the lens of nourishment. Just in the last hour, as I made my way through the Denver airport, I paused to allow my cells to receive and slurp up the nourishing moments--the eye contact and gratitude exchange with the barista, the toddler running to her Dad with outstretched arms, the local pottery on display, the smell of cinnamon in the air. My cells were open, alert, and eager to soak up the sustenance of these experiences.
There are so many of us who, on paper, are doing everything right to treat our bodies with pristine nourishment. We may eat all the right foods, exercise in all the right ways, take the right amount of vacations, meditate the recommended daily amount of time, floss regularly, and take the right amount of supplements. Even with all these "right" approaches to health, we may continue to struggle with imbalance, pain, and discord physically and/or emotionally. I often hear, "What gives? I'm doing all the things I'm supposed to, and nothing is changing!". Yes. We may be, but is it truly nourishing for your system? Are your cells absorbing it? For you, what does nourishment look, feel, taste, smell, and hear like? As we dive into our own connections with these avenues of nourishment, we may find a level of satiation, contentment, change, and ever present joy that no amount of leafy greens can compete with. Here's to allowing our cells to soak in the infinite nourishment, available in your very next inhale, that is unique to you!
Soaking in the beauty,
Jessica
